Wouldn't it be wiser to open the borders and let millions of North Koreans see 'evil' South?

The North Koreans are allowed in to the south by Seoul - it's the North Korean government that won't let

them go. Like all communist regimes, the hardest part is keeping the people IN the country.

china has everything to gain from a continued korean war with america involved, it means america will have to borrow more money and china will gladly lend it. china does not need to defeat america militarily, they can just defeat america in economics. china is pretty much paying america to clean up the world before china takes over.

China is no longer the revolutionary communist place it once was. Although it still describes itself as communist, it has in reality transformed itself into a fairly prosperous capitalist dictatorship.

The People are essentially tools to Beijing. I do not think the Chinese leadership would mourn at all if Kim were to die tomorrow, but they are not going to suddenly disapprove of his brutality, provided that he doesn't rock the boat too much outside his own country. China's continued support of such pariahs as Robert Mugabe is pretty good evidence of that.

What China wants above everything else is stability, both internally and externally. Its leaders recognize that it is doing much better than it ever has. On a purely pragmatic basis, anything that would interfere with stability in the region is not going to be supported and anything that leads to stability will be supported.

China's best interests will not be served by a war and I suspect very strongly that Beijing is working very hard behind the scenes to pour some oil on these waters.

Can we get this solved by shipping China a bunch of robin's egg blue paint? I'm sure they have enough helmets already. (In case what they have on hand is contaminated with lead.)

I like the idea of a Chinese led UN mission in the area. Perhaps they could participate in a similar capacity in Iraq and Afghanistan as well.

This is actually getting interesting. We all know that China has been the surrogate power backing North Korea since the 50s. Back then, it wanted a buffer between itself and South Korea and Japan. And it has provided financial and military assistance to its neighbour ever since.

But times have changed. China doesn't need that buffer any more - it has reasonably good political relations with the capitalist world - heck, the US is a major trading partner, it has investment in South Korea, it trades with Japan and other western capitalist economies and buys up every bit of Australian mining capacity it can get its hands on. North Korea is now just an expensive relic of an isolationist past. When Kim did his last visit to China a month or so ago, the Chinese pretty much snubbed him, and he returned home early with no big announcements of new Chinese largesse.

One of these days, the Chinese are simply going to pull the plug on this erratic nutcase, who's becoming more of a problem than he's worth to them.

"Looks like most people on this forum disagree with you. This is an indication that most people on this forum like to push China to get into the conflict."

Oh zip it Pjohnson. The USA and China don't want a war. It would destroy both nations. And stop acting like China has no blood on its hands, it certainly does.

"Before the news media run off without explaining these "WMD's" can we see the proof of this statement? I can't find anything on the web. Smoking gun? A submarine detected in the area? A sattelite image of a torpedo lunching?

How can we be sure if we don't have any evidence? How can we trust the evidence if we don't get to see/hear it?

Make love, not war!!!"

They found the torpedo.
