The movie: Confucious

M: A movie was aired at that time in China.
M: A movie supported by the gov’t
M: Confucius
U: yes…i heard of this
U: a more patriotic movie of course
M: servility education.
M: I have never watched it.
M: Hanhan wrote a blog about it.
M: there is a scene: the works of Confucius dropped in the river.
M: One of his students jumped to that river to rescue those books.
M: He got one and another one.
M: He felt exhausted struggling in that dangerous water.
M: But he found that the third one was still in the water.
M: He jumped into the water again. He rescued that book but he drowned himself.
M: The producer thought that the viewers should be moved here and burst into tears. but it seems that this scene just made more people dislike this movie.
U: really?  Had the opposite effect
U: why did this scene not move people ?
U: or rather…what was Hanhan’s opinion of why this scene did not move people?
M: are you moved?
U: i would probably be able to get the books without drowning
U: But it seems like a very noble thing to attempt to do
U: would you burst into tears if you saw this at the theater or at home on TV?
M: It’s a disgusting scene for me.
M: It shows that the people’s life are put behind those books.
M: Probably around 50 years ago, some young guys were drowned because they tried to save some wood washed away by water. They became models.
U: good point….better to risk life trying save another life rather than to save some books
M: Do you think that a piece of wood is worth a life.
U: no…not at all
M: But the gov’t likes to encourage people to do so.
U: maybe Hanhan is the 21st century Confusious?
M: Put one’s own life behind the so-called country or collective’s property
U: so that was the message
U: i see
M: Hanhan said that it’s like that Chair Mao’s works dropped in the water. Then, a person got the first one, the last one. Then he found that still the middle one was missing. So he jumped into the water and drowned.
U: only an idiot would do that…you can another copy of Mao’s work on the internet
U: 🙂
M: sure (handshake)
M: it’s called “Cult of personality”
M: At that time, if Chair Mao said something, people would be gethered at once to shout it on the street. Even in the night. get up and go to the street, shout it.
