Sell on eBay (22): how to deal with the sizes when using caculated shipping rule

U: hey
M: hi
U: how are you?
M: wait
U: ok
M: I’m fine. I was calling eBay just now.
M: how r u?
U: i’m fine
M: good
U: why were you calling ebay?
M: I have a question about combined shipping
M: but the receiver said that the phone was too noisy and she couldn’t hear me clearly.
M: Maybe you can answer it. 😉
U: ok
M: the eBay said that you can edit the caculated shipping rule.
M: There is an option saying: combine all item weights.
M: I wonder how the size is caculated.
M: all items’ sizes are added or just choose the biggest one?
U: well…if you combine shipping…that means you add all the items to one package
M: oh
U: usually it is going to just one customer
U: so put all the items in one package
M: what size of that package is?
M: If it’s two items, I should choose a bigger box.
U: i would suppose so
M: then how about the size? they added the sizes of all items or just choose one biggest size?
U: when you combine shipping you must honor the shipping cost as listed
U: you cannot combine the shipping costs
U: should be just one shipping cost
M: yeah. if one item, I put the box that sizes 2″x2″x2″, another one also is this size.
M: then when I combine these two items, the box may be doubled size: 2″x2″x4″
M: How does the eBay’s caculator deal with it?
U: but if have a set shipping price you must honor that
U: you can’t double the shipping price if you offer “combined shipping”
U: i really don’t know how eBay calculates the shipping
M: I know. When you caculate the shipping fee, you need to put the data about weight but you also need to put in the data about the size.
U: i always ship “prioriy mail” and the cost is always the same
U: I use USPS
M: oh, i c.
U: and whatever i can put in a “priority mail” box…the cost will be same….no matter what the weight is
M: it’s different in Canada.
U: yes.
M: In Canada, it caculates weight, size and distance.
U: when i ship with the USPS the cost is the same no matter where it is shipped too
M: oh, the shipping rate is low in USA.
U: because of competition
M: The competition is severe in USA. Canada is slow.
M: When people think they are capable enough, they will move to USA
U: so for me…i will charge sometimes a flat rate of $3 for shipping or offer free shipping depending on if i received the item i sold at no cost….unless it is something of moderate value i will charge $4 for shipping and offer insurance as an option
