“we made lots of cool things when i was in college”

M: http://www.coolder.com/iblog/?p=2391
M: which one do you know?
U: capacitors
U: resistors
U: timers
M: go on
U: triacs
U: rs 232
M: gave me the number plz
M: No.1?
U: no.1 looks like a RAM chip or timer or logic counter
M: No.2?
U: a strip of metal….maybe for an antenna
U: or grounding
M: No.3?
U: no.3 looks like a triac
M: what’s that for?
U: no.4 is a capacitor
M: go on plz
U: a triac allows a certain voltage to pass
U: no.5 is a RS 232 port
M: No3. inductance?
U: no.6 is an inductor or ‘can’
U: 3 pins…its possible to be inductor
M: No.6, I thought it just provides wires
U: its an inductance coil
M: No. 6, no pins
U: oh ok
M: could be coil
U: its difficult to be exact from the photos with only one view
M: oh, i c
U: what is No.2?
M: No. 6, it’s just like a roll.
U: just a roll of wire
U: ok
U: it looks like a roll of wire
M: yeah
M: No. 2, looks like a strip of aluminum, quite light
M: What are No. 5 (RS 232) for?
U: no.6 looks like a tuning coil
U: to adjust for various radio frequncies
U: radio frquencies
M: oh.
M: do you mean to wind the wire on something to adjust frequencies? (No. 6)
U: an RS 232 port used to be on older computers so they can be connected to other programmable devices or connected to another computer
M: I think it’s correct.
U: at the top…on the left…it has an adjustment screw or key
U: and turning in one direction or another can set the frequency like tuning a radio
M: do you mean No. 6?
U: yes
M: for No. 6, it’s just a roll of wires, nothing else.
U: no
U: look at the left side
M: really have nothing. Just a strip made of wires, the two side is cut clearly.
M: it is more simple than you think
U: i believe it appears to be a tuning coil
U: why just a roll of wire?
U: why do you need these parts?
M: I can make it straight. now it’s a roll.
U: are you building a spy transmitter?
M: I think maybe we need to use its wires.
M: They are from my lab kit. But I had graduated for long time, I have never used them.
M: There are also a lot of ICs.
M: I’m impressed. You know a lot of things.
M: Maybe you made some spy things with such things before. :^)
U: oh yes
U: we made lots of cool things when i was in college
M: 🙂
M: me too
U: i won an award for making a power supply monitor attached to an electronic roulette game
M: sounds great.
U: dual speed vibrator
M: what is the award?
U: 4 speed tracked mini vehicle
M: 🙂
M: sounds for gambling
U: just a piece of paper
U: it could be used for a number of things
M: 🙂
U: it was cool
M: I believe so.
M: I wanted to build a robot before.
U: the 4 speed tracked vehicle was almost like a robot
M: it’s automatic
U: totally hand made using scrap typewriter, bicycle, and radio parts
U: it used infared diodes to detect where objects were and steered away from them
M: in your parents’ garage
M: sounds quite fun
U: and also was controlled with a 2-way transmitter
M: control with a remote?
U: yes
M: you should be a toy manufacturer
M: as your career 😉
U: that was a long time ago
M: 🙂
